Ironsworn - Dream Chaser - Introduction

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

One of my current projects is Pirates of the Dragon Spiral - King of the Smoke, a journalling game that uses Ironsworn: Starforged. It's really fun, I've spent days playing it and the original game.

I showed up on the Ironsworn discord and had some chats. One such chat lead to a neat story idea for an Ironsworn game. So I thought I'd share it here.

I just finished the game setup.

Great Mount

Great Mount was founded when the People first landed in the Ironlands. They fled the soul blight that plagued the Homelands. Great Mount is steeped in history and pomp. Though faded in glory in comparison to White Haven, many Ironlanders make pilgrimages here, bringing with them vital trade that keeps Great Mount a gem in the Barrier Ises.

Brokenhelm

Fifteen years ago two of the children of Remma, the holy overseer of Great Mount, got into an argument so fierce, it came to blows. Ranna slew her brother Ikram and was summarily banished.

Remma was filled with remorse. As such, she buried Ikram on the southern island and founded a new town, Brokenhelm, around his barrow. It was a lovely sentiment, but, the new settlers found themselves very much in Great Mount's shadow.

Solana

Remma's youngest daughter was put in charge of the new Brokenhelm. Haughty due to the circumstances of her birth, resentful of being bound to the service of her dead brother, and afraid to stand up to her mother; she is not a good leader.

Those who moved here did so to get out form Reema's smothering rule. Now they find that Great Mount steals the fish from their table and dictates their lives from afar.

Small as Brokenhelm may be, she is not too small for revolt.

Tristan

Solana's weathered husband. He's gregarious and tough. His laugh is infectious and the people love him. He lost his right hand to a whale killer but saved his ship in the process.

He loves Solana and his kids above everything. His charisma is powerful enough to keep the people backing him, despite their problems.

Gruff

Gruff is Solana and Tristan's son. He's a gentle giant and accompanies his father on all his Wadern duties. Together they keep the peace and have even successfully defended Brokenhelm from raiders.

Kiah

She's just a little younger than her brother Gruff. She's a bright young woman full of the stories her father shared with her as a child. She's been blessed with magic from her grandmother. She shares tales throughout Brokenhelm, and even brings in some of Great Mount pilgrims to hear her storytelling.

The Saga of the Dream War

The Saga of the Dream War is the story of Jarn the Builder waking up the gods when they were put into eternal slumber. It has whimsical locales, drama, and a rhythm that gets stuck in your heart. It's one of the treasures Irolanders prize from the Homelands. Unfortunately, it's incomplete. The last story, where Jarn finally wakes the gods has been forgotten.

When she came of age, Kiah swore an iron vow to find Jarn and get the answer from him. This set her parents ill at ease. Their daughter's first vow, an impossibility. However, they are comforted that Kiah did not set a time for when she would complete her vow, so hopefully, they can keep her home and safe.
