I decided to write Tales of the Haunted Blue during the start of the pandemic. I felt it was time to take a crack at another novel. I love pirates, ghosts, and magic, so thought I'd write a series of fables about a pirate on a haunted sea.
That expanded into a 140,000 word novel, of which, I have finished the rough draft. Looking back at it, I'm proud of what I've done. I love the characters, the world, and its themes. I shared what I was writing with my friends and they seem to like it.
I wrote it mostly for me though. A big project to play out a grand story in my head. It is indeed grand. It starts with a sailor named Mari Wolf who ends up a pirate captain by happenstance. From there she learns the ropes and becomes the most famous pirate in the Blue. Then there's a war, then another war, and then a clash between Heaven and Hell.
You know, standard fantasy stuff.
140,000 words done!
Right now.
I. Feel. Awesome.
I've got the foundation for my book. Just need to build on it, and I'm so looking forward to doing so.
So, what's next?
I shall refine the Second Draft. Specifically:
I need to nail down the specifics about ghosts, I was too loosey-goosey in my rough.
I need to take some of the world-building in the later chapters and bring them to the earlier ones.
Fix spelling, grammar, and all that jazz.
In the meantime, I'm throwing out a line to some agents. It'd be awesome if one takes this project on.
If not, I'll self-publish
I've worked too hard to just let this book sit, and I think folks will like it.
I'll keep you up-to-date as I go.
